The Reigate & Banstead District Branch of the CPRE was established
to represent the environmental interests of the residents of this
large and diverse area of Surrey. The Committee members of the branch
represent local residents and associations from Horley in the south
of the borough to Epsom in the north; from Dorking to the west across
to Merstham in the east.
Covering an area of Green Belt countryside, the branch has mixed environs
within its remit of responsibility. For example, Horley, where London Gatwick
Airport rubs shoulders with historic villages; at the heart of the district
are the commercial centres of Reigate & Redhill, and to the North, the
M25 with its associated commuter feeds, cuts a swathe through the Surrey
Hills, with its areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The committee endeavours to be the mouthpiece of its local members; with
issues of interest ranging from the protection of the surrounding countryside,
with its associated farming and leisure activities, to acknowledging that
whilst sustainable development within the area is sometimes a necessity,
it should not take place without safeguarding the needs of the local and
rural communities.
The CPRE is consulted on Borough and Governmental issues, and plays an important
role in consultations for reports and documents. The committee of the Reigate
& Banstead Branch holds frequent meetings to air and discuss the issues
that the residents have brought to their attention. |
